OK, so what happened?
OK, so after an excellent May and beginning of June, as I mentioned in my last post, I got sidelined for awhile.
It was on Sunday morning, June 15, at 7:50 am, I was just returning home from my morning bicycle ride along Dupont Street. As I was turning from Dupont onto Emerson, a car door opened right onto my front wheel. Perfect timing. A perfect dooring! I was knocked off and over to the left, landing on the pavement, mostly on my left wrist. I got up and yelled at the unfortunate Uber driver, whose car it was. He was visibly shaken, but so was I. Apparently, he did not speak much English.
How do you get a drivers license, let alone an Uber permit, without speaking, at least, a decent amount of English? Anyway, I managed to get his license, DEAS445, white Honda SUV, his name, VLAD, and where he lived, Ajax. He drove off as I was picking my bicycle up off the street. Police should have been called. I found out later that they have to attend, if 1. a bicycle is involved, 2. there is personal injury, and 3. the damage is more that $5,000. Anyway, It did not happen. I went home, somewhat shaken.

After I had a shower and breakfast, I went to a, previously-scheduled family reunion at my brother’s house. It was a pleasant afternoon, catching up with the family, and explaining what had happened to me. About mid-afternoon, after burgers, etc., my wrist began to hurt really, really, badly. I went home, and then to emergency at Western Hospital. It was not too bad, I only waited about two hours, with all the stabbings, shootings, ODs and assorted illnesses.
They x-rayed the wrist and declared it fractured. The doctor was a pleasant young Scottish fellow. They gave me a sling and an appointment for the Fracture Clinic three days later. Fortunately, the Western has an excellent Fracture Clinic right in the hospital. When I went, they put on a real plaster cast, in a nice blue colour and sent me home, saying “Come back in five weeks to get it off.”
So, what do I do now? You can’t do a lot of finger picking or guitar shredding wearing a plaster cast on your left wrist. I did not want to take up the trumpet, right now. so, I decided to focus on my slide guitar technique and rack harmonica until I could get it off. I managed to collect quite a few signatures in the five weeks. Thanks for everyone who signed.
I found out also, that there is a collision reporting centre, specifically for Bicycle and Pedestrian accidents, located in the 14 Division Station on Doverourt. Not far away at all. I went there and reported the accident. We will see what happens. It was assigned to an officer. I will continue this in my next post.
